I'm at work /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Still, be off watch soon, then get some zzzzzzzs.

What you doing out of your berth, nobody to keep you there? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I am very surprised to hear that. I was very struck the other day, whilst rattling a bucket for the RNLI, at the amount of sheer goodwill towards the institution. People who were clearly not well heeled nevertheless found some spare change to donate. One person did comment on how far we were from the sea, in Bracknell, but I was able to tell them how I nearly had need of the lifeboat just the previous week in Burnham.

All in all it was a heartwarming experience.

They are in the minority thank goodness, but they have in the past, popped up in these forums.

You have to wonder at the mind set of such people? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I was told not to rattle the bucket at last years PBF, still PBF 4 has now been paid for /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
At the rally this year we kidnapped the club mascot and raised £100 for the RNLI before it was returned /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes, one of the other volunteers said that I shouldn't do it but the rules merely said that one shouldn't importune people to the point where they were likely to complain. Although I am generally conformist to the point of being a prig I think there is a huge difference between rattling a bucket of cash to draw attention and backing someone into a corner and refusing to get out of their way until they cough up. And no one complained. If they had I would have stopped. It was interesting the number of people that walked past then stopped and came back when I did rattle. The appeared only to need the reminder that we were there.

I bet if you wiggled like your avatar people would pay up to stop you doing it!

Michael

What's PBF and PBF4?

"nAlso on display at the festival is an Atlantic 85 Class lifeboat, belonging to the Royal National Lifeboat Association (RNLI).

The boat which has been named the Peterborough Beer Festival III, it is the third lifeboat to be paid for by generous real ale fans at a cost of more than £100,000. It will go into a reserve fleet and will go into active service when a boat is damaged.

The city’s link with RNLI started when its crew came to the first Beer Festival 29 years ago and asked organisers if they could collect more money for the cause.

In the past 20 years, the festival has raised more than £200,000 for the charity.

Speaking at the festival, Richard Hammond, chairman of the Peterborough branch of RNLI said: “There is a fantastic atmosphere here. People have been very generous.”
