Just found out that the RNLI will take your old flares (fireworks not trousers) off you for safe disposal if you take them along to Pirates Cave, Rochester, on 20 April 2013 between 10am and 4pm. Now I must nip down the garden and clear out the shed...

Interesting, used to be the Coastguard who would collect them.
You are some years out of date! Local CG teams are no longer allowed to collect them, new regulations on carriage of them by road apply to the CG. I see you live in Kent, you can normally take them to Dover CG MRCC if you phone them first to arrange it.

I've just been informed by the RNLI that they are pulling out of this event as they need to protect their relationship with the MCA and can't be seen to promote disposal of pyrotechnics at public expense. All veyr disappointing and rather odd because similar events have been held elsewhere eg http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?351733-Flare-Amnesty-Eastbourne-Marina-16th-March2013

The mca should in fact be protecting its relationship with the RNLI, as without the RNLI the mca is toothless, well boatless really
