Hi Folks,
I'm trying to find a holding tank that'll fit in a tight space (300mm max height) and have come across the RM69 tanks.

These look promising because the filler hole is recessed. The problem I have is conflicting information from different sources on dimentions and the lack of 'all round' views.

For instance on the Plastimo site they are shown without an inspection plate and don't show outlets in the underside of the tank but their crap diagram shows just that.

I've seen a photo of the 60l one in an ECS catalogue and that seems to show an outlet at the bottom corner at the oposite end to the filler.

This dimensions diagram shows all three sizes 40/60 & 80l models as being 300mm high:

But on the RM website they show the sizes as:
L x H x W
40l: 350 x 300 x 390mm
50l: 540 x 280 x 390mm
60l: 540 x 340 x 390mm
80l: 730 x 340 x 390mm

But with this diagram, again showing all sizes as 300mm high:

Also they show their tanks with in inspection plate and more outlets on top:

I understand that the Plastimo/ECS tanks are RM69 (or are they?) so what do I believe? What size is the 60l tank and where are the inlet/outlets, also what dia are they? If the 60l in in fact 340mm high I'll have to go for the 50l model, but is it really 280mm high or what?

I'm looking to fit a gravity system and I have the Plastimo electric heads (19mm in 25mm out).

Does anyone have on of these tanks fitted?
Cheers,

Crispin

I have the wrap around RM69 tank. Your photo suggests to me that these tanks are designed to operate the same way as the wrap-around, i.e. the long dip tube is the discharge pipe. Emptying seems to be either by pumping via the diverter valve as with my tank or with a second pump.

If you looking for a gravity tank then Vetus have a range, or you can get a custom tank made by Tek Tanks. However, 300mm vertical clearance is not enough - most are twice that height. You will need a pumped system, but again height will be a problem. The standard Vetus tanks are at least 370 high.

Suggest you look at www.vetus.co.uk pages 90/1 for ideas. Tek Tanks also have useful schematics and design advice on their site.

Hi, I've looked at Vetus (and all the others) but these RM's are the only ones I have found off the peg that might fit. My problem is that the dimensions listed don't seem to be reliable.

Same with a Cleghorn Waring one I looked at, it had an integrated pump and fittings and was listed as 200mm in Height (max), I nearly ordered one but at Excel I measured one and the 200mm didn't include the pump or fittings!

It's just damn hard to make a choice when you can't trust the data........

If you are going down the pumped route, then you are probably better off having TekTanks make you a custom tank then you can have the fittings and inspection plate exactly where you want them. with the height restriction you have it will be long or wide to get volume so will probably need an internal baffle. Although more expensive than a standard tank, pump(s) valves etc are more than half the overall costs.

FWIW

I have recently fitted a gravity discharge holding tank into my Westerly Konsort.
It is fitted in the locker immediately beneath the deck in the heads compartment.
I used the standard Tek Tanks 50-30-25 with fill, suck out and vent on the top. Gravity discharge on the end at the bottom.
The company were very good to deal with and very quick service.
I would have preferred a larger one (!) but with frugal use (during the day in marina use local facilities unless desparate..)

Piccies available via PM.

I second the Tek-tanks suggestion. They have useful dimensions of fittings on their site. If you order a standard one, they will fit all the fittings for you, and what is more, will advise you on the best way to do it. With a standard tank, the full order takes only a couple of weeks, provided they have all the bits. If you get a custom tank, it's a bit longer. We found them helpful and efficient, but haven't fitted the tank yet, so can't report on its performance. At least get a quote from them, even if you end up getting the tank from elsewhere.

No connections - but a happy customer.

Thanks for the advice but I didn't want to go down the tek tanks route if I could help it. The standard 50-30-25 is no good because I only have 30cm height and the connections add another 9cm. I only have one place that I can site the tank and it's a max 300mm height.

Any RM69 60l or 50l owners out there?

Your height restriction kind of forces you down the custom route. The RM tanks do not look suitable for gravity installations, nor do they seem to have sufficient fittings on the top for pump outs and the breather. Have not seen them in the plastic so not sure how they would be plumbed.

RM are Dutch and I guess they have brought these out to meet the growing demand now the rules have changed in Holland.
