Rivnut turning – best course of action?

Interesting thread. I bought rivnuts for the stainless mastgate I'm making (or, I'll start making when the steel arrives). So I made sure the rivnuts were stainless too. Was this a mistake, since they'll be in the alloy mast? I thought everyone here would be recommending stainless rivnuts rather than aluminium.

I finally found my barely-started tube of Duralac in the garage, so obviously I'd use plenty of that.

Mastgate sounds like a low load item?
Think I would prefer to have the stainless/aluminium interface where it can be easily inspected, so between fitting and fasteners on one hand and mast on the other. Especially if it is the type of mastgate that comes off every season anyway, with the mainsail.
If so, I would simply tap into the mast wall for the stainless bolts.

Thought I would sum up this thread...for the benefit of anyone who might be facing the same problem.
I got hold of some new aluminium M6 rivnuts and managed to set one of them in the existing hole with the help of a hex headed M6 bolt, a nut and a washer.
To stop the rivnut from just spinning in the hole instead of expanding, I found out the secret is to preset it a little bit, so that it bulges out to make a really close fit. Once knocked into place, I could then wind down the nut while holding the bolt head, until the rivnut was fully expanded.
