Where did you see that? Nothing on their website indicates that they are looking for somebody new.

Perhaps a great opportunity for somebody like yourself?

Yep when much a younger person that would have been my dream job; combining interest in Boating of all sorts; had experience in River Patrols with the Met; experienced in Boat Construction in Timber and Plastics + GRP; can talk for hours with other like minded boating souls; specific knowledge about Boating History since the 50s; family experienced in Boating since pre war ; taught dinghy sailing by a Real Pro, of international class; whats not to like in being a Harbour Master; oh drat, i remember, its them bloody cargo and freight Ships that persist in calling in at Teignmouth Harbour; oh well

Yep read the advert in the Authority on line somewhere; asked /checked with an empoloyee; he appeared to endorse the vacancy, so took it as good info; understand that on line there is the Port Authority and also the Harbour Board never not sure why the difference ?

What has the fact that he was ex-RN got to do with it?

Well a number actually; Guess that being a career RN fella (comodore subs) he was able to retire first from the RN before taking on the Harbour Master job /task; secondly when one looks around most HM appear to be ex RN; recall that RNLI fiasco when a HM complained about a RNLI vessel escorting into port a fishing vessel, so depriving the Port of an income /charge; funny that the RNLI head was also an ex RN same as the HM involved;

Yep being ex RN has a lot to answer for

Yep them RN only really served in Ships not Boats, with the exception of those few who actually served in Boats, and that was mainly under water

Well I'm sorry to learn that.

Had I known it would meet with your disapproval I would never have joined the RN!

But, if it's any consolation to you, I promise not to apply for the job as Harbourmaster at Teignmouth.

Aw shucks , Capt P, when you were of an age where joining up to swallow the RUM guess things were different, err, back then, them Ships were smaller, more akin to large Boats these days; so guess you must missed your Second Carrea therfore Govt Linked Pension, as a Harbour Master ?

So really sorry you did not apply to be considered to be the Teignmouth Harbour Master, I could have 'put in' a quiet word on your behalf, oh hold on, maybe good for you, or anyone else i have not done that deed (good or not ? we will never know ?)

You impecable record posting on these hallowed pages is far more eloquant, pertinant, compolsive reading that any i have recieved from present HM when I have received a Blking

Ah what might have been ?

You're too kind but the truth is that I would much rather have faced a fleet of enemy vessels than one English yachtsman (or, worse still, his wife) denied his choice of berth. :eek:
