riverside hotels?

SWMBO has her parents coming over from Jersey on the bank holiday weekend and the original plan was to go on one trip upstream and back to the marina one day, go back home and then the next day, come back and go for a trip downstream for the day.
They have said that they would be more then happy to go out on the boat, and then stay in a hotel whilst we sleep onboard (boat to small and cosy for all of us onboard!).
Sounds good in theory, but was wondering if anyone could recommend an actual riverside (or very close within walking distance) hotel. We are moored at bray, and as of yet we have only gone out on trips in the day and then returned back to the marina for the evening, and as a result have only really got as far as Marlow before having a picnic and then returning.
So a couple of questions:
1) how far could we expect to go (upstream or downstream) in a days cruising, ie, could we make it Henley at a leisurely pace?
2) Can anyone suggest a Hotel that is close to the river and has a suitable mooring nearby for us on the boat.

Although it does sound like a good idea, because that way we can spend more time on the river, and less time travelling back & forth from home, I am concerned that it might not work in practice. Worried that if there is a good suitable hotel, we might get there and find all the moorings are taken and therefore we end up mooring to far away, to make the evening enjoyable.

Bray to Henley would be a nice trip for the folks. Should be adequate moorings, maybe a good walk away if busy on a Bank Holiday.
I have used B&B's there for the Thames Traditional Boat Rally, expect to pay circa £70.00 for a double room with a good breakfast.
 
am I right in thinking that the moorings available at Henley, are only the ones by the park and riverside museum? I must admit that I always thought that wasn't the best area to moor up at night, due to it being so close to a public park and town centre. I may be wrong as I have never moored there, but wouldn't you get lots of local youths hanging around there at night?
 
had a look at their website and they do seem to offer rooms for non-members (about £140 per room at the weekend) - do you know if they have moorings on their grounds, if so I might make a call tomorrow.
Only thing that looks slightly off putting is they have a section on their website dedicated to ' dress codes for non-members when on site'
not in them jeans your not!!
so sounds like it might be to stuffy and posh
 
Theres a hotel about two locks up from Chertsey lock , they have moorings right after the locks bollards as it is right on the lock .
I never remember the names of locks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Pubs on the other hand /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Normally you can moor up ( at cost ) on the Berkshire bank downstream from Leander Club for a good way. They are setting up for the Regatta so not sure these will be available.
Another good spot looks like Martens House, Willow Lane, Wargrave, which is a B&B overlooking the river with a private mooring. Good Gastropub ( St George and Dragon ) within walking distance or short taxi ride into Henley. Not stayed there myself, but on the radar for later in the season.
 
Thames Lodge Hotel at Staines has moorings outside. Nice rooms too and not too expensive.

Oakley Court downstream from Bray.

Upstream from Shepperton lock just after the layby. Can't remember the name.
 
Stayed in Henley near the Rowing museum loads over the years and never had any problems during the day or at night

Yes, long river frontage - members mooring but they should find you a spot. See picture bottom right http://www.phylliscourt.co.uk/

Syphilus Court, Gods Waiting Room, Philistine Court, Social Climbers Centre.... all local names for the gaff.

They do have an area at the top end of the moorings for visitors, I think these may be reserved for visiting members and the like. Frankly it isn't a place I would wish to stay. There's the Red Lion Hotel almost on the bridge at Henley and you can moor across the river on Henley Regatta land.
 
I went to an office party at Phyllis Court once. There was a terrible row because some of the guests removed their jackets in the dining room without permission.

This was before the days of mobile phones, so heaven only knows what would happen to you if your phone went off anywhere near their premises!

There are plenty of moorings downstream of Henley on both banks if you do not mind the walk.
 
have just rang Martens House, and they no longer do bed & breakfast. Shame as the idea of staying directly at the bottom of the garden whilst they stayed in the house sounded very good.
