Riverside Brasserie RIP?

Yes very short sighted! we all like a deal and guess because of his attitude the club will go elsewhere.

We are going there in a couple of weeks time and found a deal on the Travelzoo website Three courses and a cocktail for £20 a head! so they must be finding it hard to get people in at the moment doing deals like that!!

Also sorry to see the Brasserie closed, but like others do believe this in large part at least was self inflicted. We would have liked to eat there but were turned away twice when there was space and tables not reserved, so never tried again. Once from the boat, not in jeans but chinos and smart shirt and once with two children, but well dressed. All I can say is that Oakley Court were happy to have our custom in their restaurant and we both drive and sailed down. Indeed mooring at Oakley Court they could not be more helpful - we called ahead were provided free mooring and had help with the ropes as well.

Still, hope that Bray does find a new tenant able to provide quality food.

Precisely my experience. Turned up in an £80k boat and dropped £500 worth of fuel into it like it was nothing (it was, believe me, but they don't know that!)

Saw only four occupied tables so decided to have lunch there. Asked for a table only to be told there are none available. "Yes there are, I can see about 20!"

"We can't accommodate you sir"

"Well can I see the menu to decide if I want to come here in the future please?"

"There's no point sir"

"Eh? What do mean ther... Oh. I see. It's like that is it?. Bye then."

Shocking. Only time I've ever been turned away from anywhere in my life!!

Maybe 30 years ago I was passing through Marlow. It was hissing down and my young son and I were a pair of drowned rats. I pulled the boat into the Compleat Angler which in those days was owned by Fortes. I went into reception explained I was on a boat and asked for a table that evening. The Receptionist looked at me like I was something on her shoe and told me that there was nothing available that evening. As I turned to leave a man came out, saw me and threw his arms around me saying something like "Byron, how are you, you old Bu*ger" . The change was instantaneous because that man was one of the Forte family. That evening I was seated and waited upon like Royalty in their half empty restaurant.

Does anyone actually know who the landlord of the brasserie is ?, it seems to be an MDL marina but there's nothing showing on their site to indicate anything is available, and from my point of view I'd like to know what the charges are for a place like this, just curious

Agreed certainly not a greasy spoon, they descibe themselves as a Brasserie! Place is an absolute gold mine right on a prime Oxford to Henley road popular with tourists, cyclists, bikers, walkers (Thames path goes through it!), in fact the only people who don't use it much are boaters as there is rarely space to moor.
Arrived early for an EA meeting at Wallingford recently so decided to try the Waterside at Benson for a bacon sarnie and coffee.
I am pleased to say the place has been transformed since my last visit and happy to recommend it as a riverside restaurant - if you can manage to moor, of cours!

You can always moor upriver, even as far up as Shillingford and have a pleasant riverside walk back to Benson.

Not easy to find but 'ere 'tis .....
