River Usk moorings

To be fair to Newport imagine it after half a billion quid has been spent on it.

That's not far off how much Cardiff's barrier cost, add in the docks redevelopment which was mostly private money and I'm sure you're talking way north of that figure...

.

You would not need anything like that much to demolish Newport. In fact it might cost very little - a free bar down the high street of a saturday night and the job done! :D

You could then turn it into the world's largest pound shop.

I used to live in. Cwmbran and went on to further education and later work in Newport, back in the 80's.
what's so wrong with the place now?
I called in last Christmas and the Murringer(?) is still there selling Sam Smith's bitter!

I know that it's a rough place at night but I went in during the day and it's just a scruffy place with no shops of real note. I used to go to Speed Music quite a bit but that's gone. There would be nothing there for me now.

I also noticed that there was a great deal of bad language from the locals and lots of spitting in the street.

Sorry to resurrect the thread..

Was wondering whether anyone knows much about the mud...

Specifically how soft and deep it is, i.e. what form of keel would be capable of mooring on the Usk.

Had thought bilge keels only though given the gradient bilge keels might only guarantee a 30 sloping deck!

I realise this is going to be very dependant upon exact location, preponderance of shopping trolleys and whatnot....

It's soft in some places and hard in others. The best boat to have is something with stubby iron keels. Anything with long spindly skegs etc may end up having them wiped off (a few Leisure 23's have lost their skegs over the years).

Generally there isn't a problem though. :)
