If you happen to be going up the River Trieux from Lezardrieux to Pontrieux (well worth it btw) keep a look out for logs and branches in the water. (especially after heavy rain)

The seaweed will usually show you the deepest part of the channel, it also hooks up branches and logs and keeps them hidden, but there are still the odd stray one floating freely

So while you're looking around at the beautiful tree lined banks of the Trieux, make sure that someone is keeping a good look out at the water ahead. Even if someone is keeping a look out, and avoiding the weedy patches, it's still possible to hit a log or branch, I know, I did :(

We were comparatively "lucky" when we hit last week. We only broke the key the that stops the prop spinning on the shaft. We had forward, but no reverse and needed to be lifted out at Lezardrieux to fix it. I'm well aware it could have been a lot worse.

Same at Treguier. The marina staff were sometimes fishing out whole trees that had got entangled in the marina. This was during the highest tide of the year - most normal tides shouldn't bring debris with them.

Same thing happens in the River Severn where the farmers upstream (and the pikeys etc) use the river as a waste disposal chute. Fridges, gas bottles, car tyres and of course complete trees. Mind you the number of trees has fallen as the number of woodburners has gone up.
