The free App, River Thames Guide, has been updated to the look-and-feel of iOS 8 (much the same as iOS 7) and is avaialble from the App Store:
App Store

All the old features are still there:
  • Interactive Map (display any combination of locks, moorings, food, marinas, slipways - tap any of these for more details such as opening hours, phone number, post code etc)
  • Journey Planner (time, distance and number of locks) between any two of 74 river locations.
  • Bridge clearance table
  • Lock table with full details (inc telephone, manned hours, post code, facilties) of every lock
  • Boating advice (inc RNLI approved emergency help)
  • Weather for selected locations
  • Current River Conditions
Only the last two features require an internet connection (the interactive map, including 'Find me', is self contained within the App so works anywhere on the river).

NEW features in this version (in addition to the new look-and-feel) include:
  • Map uses all available screen
  • Journey Planner accuracy now just a few yards and one minute (at 5mph)
  • Internals redesigned to improve download and load times
  • Lots of nice pictures of the river (different one shown each time the App is launched)
  • Slide show of boats available from Val Wyatt Marine
  • Plus: a guide to flag etiquette

Suggestions for the next version (for 2015) welcomed (although the chances of an Android version are low, sorry)

I'm not sure I want to get into the 'iOS is better than Android is better than iOS' debate or even challenge the popularity scores...

The issue for me is simple: I don't have any Android devices to run final tests before release. Building an Android version is not too big a task and there are Android simulators (as there are iOS simulators). Indeed, most of my testing is using the iOS simulators but, before every release, each version is tested on five different iOS devices (I keep upgrading so have a collection of devices!) - this is important, not just because of differing screen sizes and resolutions, but because some devices (older ones) cannot run the latest iOS version.

It would be much simpler if Apple and Google had one device and one OS version but that is not going to happen!
