The official British Marine Federation app, River Thames Guide, has been updated and will roll out to users over the next day or so. This update is for APPLE iPhone and iPad users ONLY.
Recent additions to the Apple range of phones and tablets have dispensed with the Home button; instead the devices use the swipe from bottom gesture; this is indicated by a one-third coloured bar across the bottom of the screen and can overlap the bottom toolbar.
Many apps have added extra pixels to the bottom toolbar to move any buttons or links above the swipe up area. I have adopted a different approach:
The bottom toolbar is replaced by a single button; tapping this button pops up buttons for Home, Advice, About and Help. it adds an extra tap but has the great advantage of freeing up more screen area - this should be particularly beneficial when viewing there interactive map on smaller screens.
To see this in action on the new version, select 'Whats New' from the home screen and tap the blue button.
The update applies to River Thames Guide and River Thames Guide Lite for iOS devices.
