river-stour-mussel-fishery-order-2016

It was a while before I could find a chartlet showing where this would be. There is one in the "revised management plan" link. I don't think it will affect me since I seldom go there but look forward to seeing more about it.

There is a popular anchorage just east and west of Erwarton point. Depends how close the mussel bed to the east is to this as to whether it will be an issue.
The main problem is if the mussel beds become restricted areas for navigation, either wholly or in part as yachts particularly tack across large parts of the river outside the bouys.
One thing that makes me 'smile' is that the massive document prepared to assess the use of the river and impact of the beds on the users pretty much has no proper concrete evidence of the users who carry no AIS (or don't have it turned on) other than 'discussions with local yacht clubs'. So the main users of the river are not analysed or quatified in any scientific way as a result.....waste of time really.

Reading through over a hundred pages, mainly about commercial traffic which of necessity uses the main channel and so is largely irrelevant, I'm relieved to find that It's still legal to sail or motor through the beds, anchor in them, and fish with rod, line or net!

And a few local mussels - there don't appear to be any at all on the mud or shingle at Wrabness Stone, unlike most years when I forage a couple of suppers.

It's not linked in some sinister way, is it?
