Am heading for the Stour for a few nights this weekend. First night will be at Ha'penny Pier for practical reasons (crew arriving by road).

Apart from the anchorage(s) marked on the charts, does anyone have any recommendations, please? Peace and quiet required.

Thanks in anticipation.

Wrabness, of course - the anchorage at Ewarton can be a bit noisy from activity in the commercial harbour (in my opinion).

There are other. more isolated places, such as Gallister Creek but usually requiring you take the mud, or know where the holes are.

If you want to borrow a buoy at Wrabness but wish to leave the boat unattended let me know, and I'll PM you the mooring master's number. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for this.

I did not know that there a buoys at Wrabness (have only passed by and that was in 1996!). Are these available to anyone to use? We will be staying on the boat the whole time.

Stutton is very nice, but shallow in places.

Sailorman, it was two coasters, one behind the other. I nearly spilt my Lapsang Souchong!

Philip - there are many moorings there, all privately owned and maintained, some suitable for a craft such as yours. Generally people don't mind lending them, but I can let you have the number if you want - see post 2

That's great advice, thanks. Thanks too for your offer of a phone number but I'll politely decline given the fact that things may change and I don't wish to inconvenience anyone. I remember from my original visit that this is a beautiful area and look forward to returning at leisure. On the previous occasion I was racing and barely had time to take in the view.

Thanks, also to Lazy Kipper and Sailorman. It's the first time that the latter has not taken the piss ;-)
