50 metres upstream of Windsor and Eton Footbridge
River Thames – emergency river restriction
Windsor Reach
Wednesday 17 October 2018 until further notice
Fallen tree 50 metres upstream of Windsor and Eton Footbridge
Directions for navigation and general information during this incident:
A tree has fallen 50 metres upstream of Windsor and Eton Footbridge. It is extending half way across the river. Our team is working as quickly as possible to arrange the removal of the tree. In the meantime, passage is still possible through the centre arch of Windsor and Eton Footbridge with extreme care and caution. Do not attempt to navigate through the Windsor, left arch of the footbridge.
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your patience during this time.
Note: All directions as to left and right are given looking upstream.

I'm assuming Mr Sprout's notice refers to Windsor Town Bridge which is open to cyclists as well as pedestrians and has never been just a footbridge. I may be a pedant and much more but you'd think the ignoramus could get the terminology correct.

Give his MBEship a break - looking at Chris Cove-Smith's book, neither of the two bridges (I'm ignoring the rail bridge) have a name so he - or someone in the team made a decision to clarify?
I've always known it as Eton Bridge - but I've been on the River longer than he has......

Came through there by boat about midday - don't recall seeing it.

Methinks the Notice implied that it was submerged "don't use the Windsor arch" or some such?

Growing up nearby, it was always known as Eton Bridge. Off to take my ' try not to give a toss' pill now but sometimes His MBEship is plain annoying.

you could always call up the Medway EA boys and ask how they manage to clear stuff so quickly, in some cases actually removing likely problems before the event.

Another little scenerio is with our over extended summer and trees still full of leaves, the first half decent gale will cause some grief.

While your at it could they remove the 20 or so fallen trees and roots blocking the 4 mile stretch of The 'Thames Path'from Sandford to Abingdon?
Pretty Please?
