I'd like to visit again this Summer, but not keen on using the official water taxi.
Thinking about going in my small rubber dinghy (about 6 foot, 2.5 hp outboard). Is that realistic, with 2 people ? Starcross looks the nearest - is there a public slipway there ? And how strong's the tide at that point in the Estuary ?

many thanks !

We made the trip out in our 2.3 meter dingy several times - had to save up for the meal! Seriously, the setting is fantastic and the food is excellent.

There is a public slip in Starcross at Generals Lane, there is also the slip at Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club, but as their carpark gets "used and abused" they have quite strict parking enforcement - might be worth a call to the club if you want to use that one - they are lovely people and will help if they can. I am an ex-member.

DON'T try this in the middle of a spring ebb I've had 5 knots under the keel and my old mooring was within 50 meters of the cafe! Time it right and it is a doddle.

Rockfish [https://www.therockfish.co.uk/restaurants/exmouth] have opened restaurants in Exmouth and Exeter, and other places in Devon if the weather is against you. We have found them to be outstanding and you don't get your bum wet getting there.

Many years ago I met a pal to go sailing on his boat, he had spent the night aboard and came in to pick me up on his dingy, when an ex-RM says make sure you have your teather for the dingy ride you know you are in for a soaking!

Thanks Sandy - that’s excellent advice! Will definitely make the trip!

Glad to be able to help. Generals Lane is past the Spar shop, slips under the main road and railway and approached via a housing estate. There is a free car park in New Road near the GP surgery.

Enjoy your meal.
