River Etiquette?

It is all about safety, consideration and common sense.

The speed limit should always be your absolute maximum. I know it is tempting to go faster just because your boat handles better or creates less wake than at the speed limit but the speed limit is the limit... don't exceed it.

But if you can do the speed limit safely and without creating a wake that could disturnb others or damage the shore or wildlife then do it. If not - slow down to a speed that is safe and not creating an antisocial or dangerous wake.

Simple rules that everyone should follow but few people do.

Always look behind and take a good look at your wake and the boats moored behind you. Are they rolling? If so slow down.

and never put your leg between the boat and the Quay wall

Sorry I tried hard to resist /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

ps

I would suggest Grimsby not Hull as it would save a lot of sea

Cheers Joe

As far as leg and wall is concerned... I DIDN'T!!! It was the feroceousness of the boat movement that threw my legs off the boat. I can't say this clearly enough to people. I would never put any part of myself between a boat and anything... I didn't honest! Clearly the nature of the injury suggests that I did I can see that but you would not believe the amount that the boat rolled... just from the wake of a 25ft bowrider... nor did my wife who nearly went overboard /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I am stopping at Grimsby AND Hull... can't miss out the hospitality on any side of the Humber /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks for the suggestion.

I,ve had similair when a ski boat went past during a display
my hand was on top of a post and a bloody great Turbo 36
lifted 18" and nearly had my fingers off
