As we will be proceeding up the Stande Mast Route from Leeuwarden to Delfzijl and around to the Kiel Canal next week, and having just read newspaper reports of flooding at Magdeburg, admittedly a long way from the estuary, is there anyone in the area at the moment who can give an update and advise if the flow is causing any greater difficulties?

Many thanks,

Frank

Some further digging on the web unearthed a newspaper story from an English language German newspaper (link below). With the Elbe already at twice its normal level just southeast of Hamburg it seems reasonable to assume it will flow at a considerably faster rate for several days to come.

If you, or anyone you know, intend heading for the Kiel Canal northbound in the next few days, the link to this newspaper may prove useful.

Thanks for the link. We are planning to head towards the canal next week, coming up along the Fresians. Maybe canal Sat/Sun 22/23 June. One of the links I saw suggested the peak at Cuxhaven would be around the 13th June.

We would welcome any relevant info.

Regards
Peter

Glad to be of assistance.

We're delayed outside Leeuwarden until the 20th due to my wife having to prepare for a very important (and unexpected) meeting in Tallinn, Estonia, on the 17th. We'll have a stop in Groningen to facilitate my son's train trip to Schipol and home to Dublin. Probably arrive in the Baltic around the end of the month or slightly sooner. Retired so no rush.
