Further to my thread yesterday I have asked Dan a few technical questions.

As expected not as easy as first thought.

I can go through and delete the individual posts but it will leave a "post deleted by" comment and will still require you to scroll down as the posts will remain.

The only other way is to delete the whole post, start a new one but this will then require you to save the new one as your favorite.

So let me know what you guys want to do!

I knew I should have kept my mouth shut!

The main advantage of the River Conditions thread is that any posts are automatically emailed to those who have made it a favourite thread. Anyone away from base and receiving emails via mobile phone doesnt really want to be faced with re-establishing a favourite thread if it can be avoided.

On the other hand, it doesnt really matter how long the thread gets from our point of view as we read and delete on the mobile as they are received.

Just leave the thread to grow ever longer then sounds like the best bet.

If it starts to get to the stage where there are so many posts within that thread as to cause the forum server problems (hopefully we wont have that much bad weather), we could always start a new one once a year or so.

Darren.

Perhaps when one bad spell of weather has moved on then delete all so it can start again.
The thread was unused for quite a while till this week when we returned to the same cr@ppy weather as last July

If the thread is deleted, anyone wishing to get the emails would need to log into the forum and set the new thread as a favourite thread - might not be too easy for someone away from base at that time.

I prefer to leave it and maybe start a new thread once a year, say on 1st January - in fact thread could be named 'River Conditions 2008' etc. Might even prove a useful research tool for analysing annual trends ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh no I didn't mean delete the thread. I know what you mean there. Just meant delete all messages after the bad conditions have passed if that was possible.

But equally once a year will do. Just wondering how many messages could clog the thread near the end of the season given the conditions we have now
