River conditions

Is it possible that the water extraction point at Laleham is currently 'in reverse' and effectively acting as a tributary when there is too much water in the Queen Mary reservoir?

Chertseys weir is all hand radials , coupled with a very small ( comparative ) drop , means they go red very quickly.

Slowly dropping off at Tedders , 4 radials running here , was 5 this morning.

My guess is

Very nasty draw from head weir, when you slow down(!) to go on the layby, then the stream sucks you over.

The layby is only in sheltered waters right at the lock end and that for only 2 small boats.

If that's not correct, then it may be something to do with eddies near the bridge, but by that time one has power on.

BTW pm me with details as to where you wanted the tv dropped off?

Interesting point. I live opposite the intake and I have seen it reverse only once a year to clear debris.

Conditions below Teddington have been moderating nicely. Level is close to normal now and the flow is not too bad. I went for a sail yesterday afternoon and despite a tricky southerly breeze I had no problems coping with the stream.

Fingers crossed that we do not get any more substantial rain before the weekend.

In the weirstream at Tedders we are currently sitting 18 inches above normal at low tide. The weirstream is still pretty fast flowing though , but no one really goes up there to be honest.

Its about time the EA produced information like that instead of us having to rely on unofficial sites /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Rose 15" this morning alone in Staines and was already high. Have had a rather adventurous run putting the boat on the back risers. Interesting stream... yet all looks relatively calm above Bell Weir.

Can you just keep the water flowing aplenty through the weir until next month please? I have only had one day standing precariously above the mud and have been floating since.

Weirdly , even before the river started picking up , on the first day of the draw off , with no gates running on the weir , we only dropped to a low point of 9 foot 2 inches on the tail ..

Most years we see a drop to 5 foot 6 inches or so , so something is keeping the extra 4 feet of water up this end , whether the sand bar at the top of Eel Pie has extended considerably over the summer , i don't know , but the water certainly doesn't seem to be dropping here very much at all .

What were conditions like at Eel Pie before the river started running ?

Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, I was high and dry within an hour or so of HW. Today, I am still in 5'8" of water 3.5hrs after HW.

Didn't drop below 9 foot 2 inches on saturday night / sunday morning , hit it at 0500 and stayed that way till 0900 . Sunday night we didn't drop below 9 foot 7 inches , so something must be holding it back up here .

Hi All

I am thinking of going from Chiswick to Penton Hook on Thursday 20th and back to Chiswick again on Friday 21st - last trip of the year. Is this going to be possible with the river in its current state?

Sorry for being such a noobie!
