River conditions

Not according to the EA at 4:30pm!
They claim to update at 11am and 4pm if things change and they obviously have and obviously don't.
Will I get to Henley tomorrow, who knows, the EA aren't being helpful again - deja vu from last year. Anyone want to visit?

The river just up from Penton Hook is running a tiny bit faster than normal summer, maybe 0.5 m/s, but the level is about 30cm ( a foot for us oldies ) below normal, maybe in anticiaption of a surge, I wouldn't know.

Going up through Staines bridge, there is a ridge on the downstream side (caused by the water scour as it goes through the bridge slowing immediately after) - if you take the right hand arch by the town moorings, there is normally only about 0.9m, so i would guess that this is now down to about half a metre.

The central span has plenty water, but mind your props if you decide to pull of the quay and go straight through...

Yellows out at Marsh lock. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think it's just around the lock as the wier appears to be quite well open. River up a couple of inches since last night.

Stand by for lock keepers soon wearing hi-viz tabards and hard hats...

And then someone will point out the height they work above water and they'll be on safety harnesses with lifelines...

Why not try the wonderful East Coast? Seamanship and planning will put you out of reach of the EA's H&S cretins...

You've the boat for it... Go and reap the rewards!!!

Fresh seafood straight from the net, anyone?

Only when the lock is empty , we can take them off when the lock is full /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yellow boards currently out St Johns - Boveney with the exception of Radcot, Northmoor, Eynsham and Osney which are red. Lots more rain coming.

Use 0845 988 1188, select option 1 followed by quick dial 011131 to stay up to date UNTIL we launch our new 'river conditions' web pages, hopefully in October, watch this space!

Penton/Laleham 3+ knots and only 20cms above normal levels for this time of year.

Folks, I'm anxious to know about any red boards as my parents are out in it near Medmenham (sp?). I'm sure they'll be fine but both are 76 and my Mum's registered blind and they are prone to being a bit gung-ho!

Red boards at Hambleden, apparently there are 6 gates open on the weir...

A lot of water here at Abingdon too, coming down from the Evenlode and the Ray mainly i think. Red from Marlow to St Johns, apparently.

Infoline update 10.00 hours Tuesday 9th September. Next update when there are significant changes to river conditions.

Red Warning Boards notifying STRONG STREAM caution are being displayed from Buscot to Marlow inclusive and Chertsey. All river users are advised to refrain from navigating on the river in any type of boat in Strong stream conditions.

Yellow Stream Warning boards are being displayed at St John’s, Rushey and Cookham to Teddington inclusive with the exception of Chertsey which are on Red Warning boards. Users of unpowered boats are advised to refrain from navigating on the river upstream of these locations in these conditions.

More rain is forecast for throughout the week which is likely to mean warning will continue to be displayed.
