River Avon above Bristol.

Anyone taken a boat through Bristol and out the top end onto the Avon again?

With Mighty Atoms shallow draught and easilly lowered mast I am thinking of having a look at it.

PS had first sail of the season today, Didnt do a single bit of maintenance that I planned to do over the winter so boat not looking its best but a great sail all the same.

The trip to Bath will take you about 5-6 hours depending on the locks with quite a few places to stop and loads of pubs.
Don't forget to buy a windlas for the locks and a spare for the one you will drop in the water!
Anything in particular you wanted to know.

You might be able to take advantage of the proposal by Chipping Sodbury Yacht Club....

The CSYC continues to urgently seek the re-opening of the river Frome to give us clear passage to Bristol docks, and then the river Avon, and finally to the Bristol channel.

Of course, to re-open the Frome would mean a number of engineering projects. First, a widening programme from Chipping Sodbury, through Iron Acton, Frampton Cotterell and Frenchay, the moving of the m32 100yards west, unfortunately the tesco store would have to go to accommodate this, but it is necessary to expose the Frome through Eastville. It goes completely underground as it enters Broadmead, and it is here that the re is the greatest challenge – the demolition of Broadmead shopping centre, Bridewell police station, and all Rupert street office blocks, and the centre opened up to the docks.

The city centre and Broadmead would then take on an “Amsterdam” like appearance, and yachts could again appear there. The hippodrome would be a riverside theatre again and the church of St Mary would truly be on the quay again.

Graham, You will need a river licence to proceed up stream of Hanham lock, officially the 1st lock on the Kennet and avon Canal (although it is on the river!)
