The concensus seems to be that big ships are more dangerous than ever. Staffed by not enough of the poorly trained and underpaid who can't see us even if they're looking. Driven at ludicrous speeds in poor conditions and all so we can have cheap VCR's.

So knowing this is anyone here thinking of calling the broker and taking up bowls?

Simple really. Just keep out of the way of the silly B****ds and let them pile into each other and piles of cars somewhere off Dover.

The other alternative is to sail somewhere nice like the Moray Firth. There isn't a lot of big ships up here. You have to dodge the odd lump of steel & concrete if you go over to Norway though!

BTW, if you're calling in the broker, what are you selling??

Bowls!?! Didn\'t you know ...

... you can get SERIOUSLY INJURED playing bowls! (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.general.monash.edu.au/muarc/rptsum/es138.htm>Risk assessment</A>).

Or sail somewhere shallow so that ships can't go there. Cardigan bay is a bit like this (apart from ferries at Fishguard). The ideal draft for Porthmadog seems to be about that of a canoe.

The Solway Firth is similarly draft restricting to ships in many places, but deep enough for us.

Fishguard

Was down there last Saturday / Sunday.

That ugly looking grey cat is pretty damn fast, I watched her appear on the horizon and popped down below to put kettle on, when I came back up on deck she was slowing down for her approach into the harbour, I am glad I was no-where near her course.

Probably as fast as the cat tho' ?
