Rip stop fabric,sail cover??????

I am going to be making a sail cover soon and have came across som waterproof ripstop fabric, What is people opinions about using this type of fabric?

If it's waterproof then it may not breath, this will mean a damp sail will not dry out and you could end up with a mould growth.

How light proof is it? One of the main jobs of covers is to protect from UV rays.
Ripstop material is usually fairly thin, so may be a bit too flappy in a breeze, causing noise & chafing.
However, if it's free, that's a big plus.

I think most ripstop nylon has poor uV resistance so will last about half a season. Look at www.pointnorth.co.uk for better fabrics and more info.
