Rip off Burnham

I would expect to pay double if I was occupying two finger berths. Except we were on the end of F pontoon where there is not enough room to raft up two monohuls. So that does not apply. And we would only visit if there is such a berth available.

Understood, if you're accommodated on a hammerhead or similar there's not a lot of logic to charging double per boat length.

Burnham tends to be a miserable slog from the Medway in a deep draft boat, straight to Blackwater or Orwell is my preference.

I don't dislike Burnham at all, in fact I think its a great town/river, it's just looking at the same buoys and rusty posts for hours from both sides of the Maplin Sands in one day a bit much!

Should visitors not pay part of the facility cost?

Interesting question, i'm not sure that they should. When you visit a yacht club you don't have to pay 1/365th of a years membership to have a pint :)

At Shotley I think the price is in part to pay for the plug in leads that don't get returned.

Shotley charge the same £3 as Burnham, both owned by the same people. Not sure that they do lose the plug in leads, the lock keepers usually collect them as the boats leave.

I do think £3 is a bit steep, but wouldn't lose any sleep over it if i was visiting for a night or two. Althouh i don't use shore power when i visit anyway, due to the solar panels.

As far as I can tell nobody has been charged double so IMHO talking about when one might be prepared to pay double is misleading.

I have generally only done the Medway to the Crouch when there want enough ebb left to continue up the Wallet or cross the Spitway

There's plenty of room to anchor nowadays if you don't mind a bit of dinghy work. We had to use the dinghy before the marina was built, but there was no room to anchor then.
Getting ashore legitimately is more of a problem, very limited public access to the water in Burnham.

Dingies and a good meal out with a beer or two are not always best companions on a fast flowing river.

Your "good meal out with a beer or two" will have inflated more over the last 10 years than has the Burnham mooring fee. why not whinge about that?
No, better idea - anchor off Burnham, go ashore, have your meal, drink lots of beer ( after you get back to your boat) and with any luck you won't subject us to your unreasonable complaints afterwards
