Got my hands on an old rigid raider. Anybody know if these boats are any good? Heard they were heavy and need a fairly big outboard! I have a 30hp yamaha, would that do?

I doubt it. I think they are about 17ft long and weigh nearly as much as the Ark Royal. A 30hp will be fine for displacement work but I doubt it would get on the plane even if lightly loaded.

I think they did an 8 metre that could take that. Have seen a few 17's with 90hp. They go well

Which one? When I was a Royal Engineers cadet there were Marks 1 to 3, there may be more now.
Roughly speaking, Mk I has an outboard and (fairly rubbish) seats along the sides, Mk II has an outboard and seats that you straddle, and Mk III has an inboard (and straddle seats).
I got to have a go on all of them on a field trip - the II and III were brilliant fun, the Mk I (because of the rubbish seats with no shock absorption or decent handhelds) was scary and painful and had one guy pissing blood afterwards.

Just seen this diesel outboard on another forum, currently being tested and looks around 150hp. Could be a real game changer if its any good.
