Rigid Kicker/Vangs

I intend fitting a rigid vang or kicker to my Sun Odyssey 34.2. Any views on the merits/disadvantages on gas/spring/rigid etc or any specific makes? the standard spars are Sparcraft

I have a sping rigid vang on a Dufour 32, ZSpars. Would recommend fitting a gas one as the boom bounces around like mad on the spring when sail is down, so much so I've reconnected the Topping lift so I can tension the boom against it using the main sheet. Apart from that its great at holding the boom whilst reefing. However would I fit another, NO .

Then how will you scandalise the main?

Or don't people do that any more?
