Hello all, I know you've been waiting some time to see me .. so here I am. What is it you wanted?

I'm after some advice on a smallish boat I can use for comfortably and safely circumnavigating the British Isles.
What about a Sadler 29 bilge keeler?

Is that OK but not good or OK = perfect?

I'll be singlehanding and plan to visit St Kilda and maybe Iceland. I've never done any big boat sailing but have cruised my wayfarer reasonably extensively

As anyone who has browsed PBO for the last couple of years would have seen, Roger Oliver successfully did it in his Sadler 25. There have been smaller of course, but a 29 would be comfortable for 2 or 3.
Welcome, by the way.

What's PBO? I will be single handing and thought the Sadler might be a good idea if I went to Iceland as it might be a bit warmer because of the foam. Considered that bilge keels might be useful for drying out but worried they might adversely affect sailing performance and stability?

Welcome to the forum. I should warn you that newbies have been getting a bit of a flaming of late due to mischief hereabouts

I'd question the bilge-keeler for your voyage as the main advantages are in taking the ground in shallows. I know I'll be flamed for saying this, but they sail like pigs as do all multihulls

So my advice would be to stick to a decent fin keel and keep your wits about you

Good luck with whatever you decide, sounds like a great adventure

Ta Mr Tome, I fancy the bilge keels more for the East Coast return as it will give me more harbour options. Plus I'll have a spare keel if one falls off. Should I carry a liferaft or is the unsinkability quality of the Sadler adequate?

Re: Right Boat Round Britain (but missing out Scotland)

I believe a Corribee 21 might be suitable - but suggest something smaller for maximum publicity/sponsorship.

You didn't want to be un-noticed do you?

Re: Right Boat Round Britain (but missing out Scotland)

Or perhaps a TRAWLER of some sort..?

Re: Right Boat Round Britain (but missing out Scotland)

I believe Tarquin in Emsworth are looking for a PR opportunity, try a PM to Gludy

the other boat I was considering was a Twister but I can't get a bilge keel one, are they as good as the Sadlers?

Lovely boat the Twister, and a good choice apart from the teak deck which needs replacing regular

A thoroughbread passagemaker on the whole, though they haave a poor reputation in Cherbourg
