Rigging quote

I can't say I'm surprised at the price, assuming it includes swaged fittings both ends of each wire, after all you are dressing two masts and the swages are a substantial portion of the cost. Obviously depending on age and original quality, but most riggers would advise you to change the screws too - the threads do carry the entire load!

P.S. Just realised these are fitted prices, so include call-out, travel time and labour. Imagine what it would cost if a plumber did it!
 
Seems reasonable to me.
Don't be surprised if there are some additional hidden costs.
i.e. Will the furler foil come apart to get the wire through or are the sections corroded together?

I agree - Seemed a lot at first then I noticed it included labour charges. But I would get new bottle screws too - you can fit them yourself and save a bit of money.

Nothing to suggest he is being forced to change by his insurance company. Remember he is preparing his boat to go off to the Med for a few years. Not a bad idea to consider replacing the rigging.

This year in Leros (Greece) a boat with rod rigging was bought by new owners. They were advised to replace it all. Having lowered the mast the rigging was removed, the rigger put it in his car and drove to Holland to have a new set made up, then drove it back. No doubt that doubled the cost.
 
And take the chance to go round the mast sheaves and their pins,mast tang rivets,chainplates etc,so you can do your new wire up nice and tight!
 
Seems reasonable to me. Am in the process of doing same to 25' with 5mm. Including new everything (screws, blocks, lights, VHF etc) I was quoted in just over £1K but with my extras am expecting to be £1.5K for the mast.

I am also checking / repairing / beefing up the chain plates and dealing with any rot (old wooden) and that is going to add some to the total.

Personally, I dont see the point in splitting the job into smaller parts and doing them over time, as the whole rig is only as good as its oldest / weakest part.

Dave Nicholls of DRS Rigging (Burnham on Crouch) may do you a deal as I think he has an association with The Countess Owners Association. (He bought a MastaClimba during a COA AGM).
