Our mast needs to be stepped this spring. The boat will be at Swanwick.
I will be there on the day and would like to ask lots of dumb questions during the process (rig tension, can the furling drum go higher, you think we could add shock chords to the runners here, etc...)
Will also be upgrading lots of halyards and other lines so potential for some business there.
I will be using the Swanwick crane and could just use their riggers.

Any recommendations in the area for knowleadge and price?

We used the riggers from Aladdins Cave at Deacons. Seemed really good and most importantly delivered everything on time and to price. I will use them again.
Aladdins Cave has just been bought by Force4 and I haven't used them since them but there is no reason to think that quality would have nose-dived.

No connections, just satisified customer etc.etc.

FYI: A friend had a bad experience with the guys at Alladins who overtightened the rig on his old boat and did considerable damage to his wooden mast. It seems that the rigger involved worked on the principle that stuff should always be bar tight, which isn't always the case.

Jerry the Rigger did my ten year re-rig of all standing and running rigging and he did an excellent job. One man band and every reason to look after his excellent reputation.

I'll second Jerry, have had him on a coupla boats and friends have used him as well, he used to work with Martin Leeming who I'd also recommend equally - Mart's number 07712664680
I have Jerry's number as 07764236741 but that is a few years old so previous poster possibly more recent

I have used Dave at Deacons for many years including a new mast on my old boat and new furling gear last year (carried out at Swanwick Marina) and the service has always been excellent.

Thank for the recommendations guys. I like to give my biz to the smaller outfits. Nothing philosophical, just the experiences I've had with price/quality.

I used Dave Rose (guess what, Dave the Rigger), based at Mercury. A really decent guy and loads of experience. Company name is Compass Rose. His son also works in the business, and is also a 'good egg'!!! He was also very competative on price! (He also did some articles for Sailing Today a while back!!!)

I used Jerry for a very minor repair, the final bill was less than the estimate. I know, hard to believe.

Mark you, actually persuading him to get his act together and send me the bill (after the work was done well and within a couple of days of asking - "I had a spare few minutes yesterday") was awful.

Seems like the type to be encouraged.
