Does anyone have a simple step by step guide for setting up a a double spreader mast. I have searched the forum and www sites and apart from books on the subject can,t find the instructions I need to get my rigging set up from scratch.
My immediate concern is the top baby stays that go very slack on either tack and setting the tension on the outside shrouds which are 2 piece joined at the first spreader along with the baby stays.
Ihave a slight "s" bend about mid section which I am having difficulty in eliminating and propose to start again from scratch.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Go to manuals and look for hints and advice its a pdf file which should give most of the basic info you will need.

Have a look at Ivar Dedeckams sail and rig tuning - simple and easy to follow. In most Chandlers - also what are you referring to as your babystays?

What kind of boat is it? is it masthead or fractional, are the spreaders in line or swept back, do you have runners and/or check stays? Is the babystay permanently attached? Do you have a permanent or adjustable backstay?

There is 2 good articles on setting up a X-332 which has a 7/8 fractional double spreader rig, one on the x-332 web site ( there is a link through the Yachts & Yachting web site under classes), and the other through Northsails UK under x-332 one design. both go through the basic stages of setting up a double spreader rig

I plan to use these as a guide when my boat goes on the water

Thanks for your reply - Mine is a fractional rig (I think 90% - don't have my books at home but hope to be on boat this weekend) it's a Bavaria 34'. What I call babystays I quess are baby shrouds coming off at the end of the top spreader to mast.
Don't have runners or check stays but not sure of this terminology - have adjustable backstay - simple pulley type.
Mast was put up on the wrong notch on deck = was too far forward and had repositioned to vertical (well almost) got no adjustment on the forestay. I am now trying to get the rigging back into line.
