Just received from PLA :

RICHMOND LOCK
NEW CHARGING REGIME

From the 1st January 2010 all vessels regardless of size, draught or displacement will be charged £5.00 to use Richmond Lock.

Vessel owners are asked to ensure that they have the requisite funds before entering the lock, only cash will be accepted. Standing arrangements for frequent users of the lock will continue as before.

Notes:

Return passage on the same day will not be charged an additional £5.00

No charges will be levied on vessels using the boat rollers which are now fitted with a new non-slip decking and are appropriate for use by small un-powered vessels.

I think we were expecting this, from an announcement earlier in the year. From memory it was about a fiver several years ago.

Yup! all they have done is re-instated the old charges. Not unreasonable if you aren't prepared to wait for free flow.

just seen the LNTM from HM.

What was the situation this year?

Once I pass from the tidal section do I have to pay yet more cash to use the bit say to Hampton Ct for one day trip?

Thanks

You will only need to pay for Richmond Lock if you physically go through it, if you take the tide through the gates you wont have to pay until you get to Tedd. If you go through the lock (Tedd) then yes you will have to pay from Tedd to HC, the normal day licence

If you work the tides you will be able to go from your place up to Tedd and back with no charges but thats if you work the tides!

Thanks Richard - yes we did exactly that in the summer ie rode the flood up and came back after seeing Teddington on the turn.

i forgot that richond can be transited without actually going through any gates...

So its a fiver per boat regardless of whether or not you go through solo or in company. Must remember to solo, I want personal service for a fiver!

And some bl00dy waiting pontoons or even mooring posts top and tail and, tbh, some prefessional responsiveness from the staff for whom I no longer expect to have to search if I need to use the lock, even if its "only half an hour before we lift the gate mate".
