I have never been above Richmond when there is a draw off.

But I am likely to do so for the first time tomorrow.

Am I right to asssume that I will be OK so long as I do this 2 hours either side of high water? I draw three feet.

Any thoughts on what to expect would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Although I'm on the other side of Eel Pie from your route, I had lost all water under me by 10am this morning. Otherwise I would have suggested you pop by for a cup of tea. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We're talking crack of dawn here, Brendan, and it's a Thursday so I'll already have been to bed. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Must be the displacement from the Eel Pie Posse that you're accommodating up there at the moment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There wasnt a real draw off last year either . I notice the PLA or who ever has dropped some nice big metal baskets in this year with some pretty crappy markers !
I would go the other side of the island and hope some twat hasnt decided that dropping over sized shopping trolleys in the river is a good idea .

Re "Either side of high water Teddington , which is currently 1 hour after high water London bridge."
I thought HW Richmond sluices was London Bridge + 2hrs. Is it different during the draw off or am I just wrong?

We brought a Fleur de Lyss round from Brighton to Kingston a few years ago, forgot about the draw off, got to Richmond Lock and grounded just above the bridge. This was 1am ish, having set off the previous morning about 4am. We were lifted, turned got afloat, held back, grounded again, all whilst noticing a party going on in Pete Townshend's house nearby. Evently got enough water to get to up and on to Kingston by about 2:30.

So your saying the tide takes 2hrs to reach Teddington in the summer but only an hour in the winter /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ye Gods, I teach this to 10 year old Sea Scouts and they understand it.....

Richmond High Tide is + 1 Hour from London Bridge time.

Tide tables refer to GMT.

Therefore during BST add another hour.

Of course, your ship's Chronometer will be on GMT all the time, so you will not need to worry about BST.......

I always remember that if you want to know what time Richmond Barrier opens in the summer look at the timetables for High Water at London Bridge (GMT), that time BST is the time they open (roughly).
It then stays open for about 4 hours.
No complicated adding and subtracting.
