Richmond Canoe Club - Verbal Abuse to kids

Ergo not a kayak :D

Good to see that they are doing something about the complaint. :)

Yip I am not totally up with my long thin floaty things..but the good folk on here have corrected me (by PM bless them!)

Anyhow very impressed with the response, proves that they do take it seriously

I'm a long standing member of Richmond canoe club - 27 Years... and i know the coach and Amelia the girl being coached. Since i wasnt around at the particular event i don't know exactly what happened, but my guess is that she was out when the tide was coming either in or out and the flow was carrying her towards a boat and therefore a nasty swim. the other scenario is when a boat was going to hit her and the coach was shouting at her to paddle one way or the other.

Generally the coaches are very easy going...except when there is a risk like a swim or collision.

As a club we are very into making the club fun, safe and friendly and if a coach was generally being an idiot and rude to the kids, they would not last long.

I suppose the original person writing the 'alert' would have heard shouting, but were they aware of a probable cause for the stressful situation?

the coach presumably should be responsible for the children of 2 years ago NOT getting into a stressful situation in the first place ?

It would be good to hear whether the event had a successful conclusion, or not.

This is a very old post and I spoke to a few people there at the time.

The instructor since apologised and that was that.

There was no dangerous situation he simply lost his rag and swore at the girl.

It was low tide, slack water but as you say a lot of water under Richmond Bridge since then!

Mind you if they don't look where they are going as they cross dry land carrying them as I run past we may just fall out again!

good practice for the high jump or hurdles, depending how high they carry or short you are.
