With High Water Richmond around 1510 can anyone tell me why the barrier remained down today.

So, if I understand correctly, the answer would appear to be that Richmond Barrier remained closed because of what was happening at the Thames Barrier.

It means that we see no rise of the tide at all at Teddington for the time of the Barrier closure , because no tide comes in , the Richmond barrier is not lifted.

The Richmond barrier is lifted when the level below the barrier reaches the level above the barrier , then the river becomes tidal to Teddington.

When the tide is falling , when it has fallen to the height of the Richmond barrier , they put the barrier down , holding a maintained level between Richmond and Teddington , while to tide continues to fall below Richmond.

When the draw off takes place , we become fully tidal for a while as the maintainde level is allowed to fall with the tide to give access to the river bed and underwater structures.

Typically we lose 5 or 6 feet extra off our normal 'low tide' level at Teddington during the draw off.

And take pity on the poor pensioner who, due to the predicted tides, will have to stay up in Teddington for nearly 6 weeks before, during and after the draw-off.

But then again, you will have to listen to his winging for all that time while he is there and in the Tide End after 4pm. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What's happened to the Tide End lately it seems to have gone down hill fast..Then again the Anglers aint up to much I had the misfortune of a pint there on Saturday I thought I was in Ham...

Rich , Tide End has changed managers unfortunately , Colin has gone to a job at the airport driving suitcase lorries around ( pays better and less aggro apparently ) ...

The name ' Walkabout II ' rings a bell , i had no idea he was called Concrete Jim though , a great name ! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's a concrete, Alan Buchanan sloop(?) owned by Jimmy Tuttle.

He is going to get his new mast craned on while he is up there, so we'll have to think of some prank to play on him. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
