There is a RIB berthed at the side of me and I wish to pose a cheeky question to the owner , before I do I thought it might be a good idea to obtain the forum RIB owners thoughts of anticipated problems........

He always berths bow first and leaves his outboards sticking out the dangerous end.

What do you think if I offer to turn it round for him ( easily done from my bow with ropes)

his outboards are protected from collision by the pontoon.
I get extra room to berth as his bow is very narrow.
 
If it were me, i wouldnt have a problem but then im quite laid back about things like that.

Personally i would prefer to drive out forwards anyway and always back ours into the berth as it makes boarding much easier as well!

that said, we are a funny lot us ribnobbers so tread careful!!
 
Maybe it's that way round to make it a tiny bit more difficult for the local crims to nick the outboards? Just a thought.
 
Thats a good thought, I best leave it as it is.
it would be my luck for the outboards to get nicked with my dabs all over them :eek:
 
And the waves & surge from wash will push him back, bashing his o/bs by the props onto the galvanised steel pontoon edging? He may not appreciate taht either. Or the props from his raised o/bs will sit over the pontoon & some poor sap will bark his shins quite badly & go apex over base into the water.

Why must you alway feel you know best? :D Give the guy a break, perhaps ask him why he berths ike that - you may learn summat.

it's a rubber duck, what difference does it make to you which way round he berths it?

Your perceived benefits,

Couldn't vote cos the
'Leave it alone cos the owner might be a doddery old Welsh git' option wasn't available!
The bloke might think his lumps will lump the pontoon if stern to?
Can't think of owt else.
Some ribs have limited points to tie up, ie no forward samson post or proper cleats etc
Although that would be the same bow or stern too.
One lump or two a rib is no sweat to berth
Have you watched him berth, maybe he is a novice and is afraid of reversing in?

It's all too confusing to this Nobber:confused:
 
He might think to himself:
"This bloke can't park his boat properly and wants to organize the marina for his own convenience" and/or
"He wants to use my boat as a giant fender" and/or
"I've paid my money like him, I will please myself"
If you got to know him better it could be worth mentioning over a beer but only after a year or so.

when the rib is moored stern towards the pontoon,
it is difficult for him to get on and off the boat
ob is between the pontoon and the boat
(I assume it is not a pontoon with fingers)
