You don't see the RLNI using RIBS for their big offshore stuff (there must be large RIBS), nor do the coastguard.

The KNRM - the Dutch lifeboat service - use large RIBs.

" That said, lots of people do use them for fishing etc. "

for fishing surely not what about all those fish hooks what if they stuck into the tubes? Pssssssssssssssssssssssss......

I think you would have to push fish hook quite hard to get it to puncture rib collars.
I think ribs are much safer in heavy seas, if you get it wrong and bury it at 20kts the rib fills up with water, but soon drains away ready for the next one.
I've had fantastic trips in the ribs i've had, all year round - Guernsey trip got a bit chilly in feb though.

What type of car do you drive?
Its the same as RIB or Sportboat?
It all depents on what you need.
I suggest that before you decide to buy,
you charter a rib a few more times, so the speed wow
effect diminishes and you can focus on other aspects.
Then also do the same with a sportboat.
You will then have your answer...since you will know
whether a ribster or a sporster!
