Usenet. One of the original bulletin board systems. There are many groups (forums) which discuss just about anything under the sun, and pretty much unmoderated.
Though many/some of them are worthwhile, many of the inhabitants are lacking in understanding or social skills and go off the deepend with little encouragement. God help you if you haven't read the FAQ's or use uppercase for example. Every so often a controversial thread turns up, and every lunatic on the planet appears.
