My yacht club has a retired member who does the most amazing design and build features for the club house and the boatyard surroundings at material cost only. He is still an active sailor. We would like to recognise his contribution with some kind of "lifetime" award, but we are not sure what to do. There must be lots of sailing clubs who have similar outstanding members. Any suggestions on what we could do?

Our club east Fremantle Yacht Club occasionally grant life membership in recognition of service to the club. There is an honour board of recipients. and they get a gold badge to wear.
Another lesser award is the Service award which comes with a silver badge and mention on an honour board.
There are also bronze badges for 20 years or more continuous membership. olewill

We use Life Membership as a reward for long service and we use it sparingly - that way it holds a great deal of value and is highly regarded by the membership. We are going the same way as Ole Will with an Honours Board for the Club House being commissioned. We award Life membership as an item at the AGM.
