My previous brilliant anti-theft system for the dinghy has failed miserably. This was to get a small china-made inflatable and park it on the back of the boat to make it look occupied, thereby frighteneeing off all the tealeaves.

Unfortunately, a very light dinghy at back of boat at anchor gets airborne, spins round and round and eventually screws itself off the string, dammit.

Thus, with no decoy, the blimmin outboard got nicked, dammit. Yes! the outboard was nicked while i was actuially on the boat for crissakes. ok, not very compos mentis on the boat, due to having made a rum punch by getting some rum punch and adding rum, cept the rum punch already has rum in it. But anyway, some git nicked the outboard 9.9 yamaha thing dammit, whilst i was on board, in st lucia.

So! My latest foolproof anti-theft system is to Buy Another One. Hah! That'll learnem, the toerags. I never liked that outboard anyway it was shite, and weedy, so a qucik phone call gets a nice new 15hp outboard, and the thieves are stuffed with the crap ole 9.9 which i didn't service, ever, and it didn't have much fuel.

The police were very good, btw. Dint find the outboard but they DID buy me a beer, top stuff.

Look on the bright side, you will get plenty of excercise rowing. Its good fun messing about with a pair of oars.

Marlon says hello too.

Thats the 2nd dodgy thing Ive heard about ST lucia in as many months
The other was a horrific story of midnight robbery in a secluded bay
Cant remember the exact details was on a yotty blog somewhere
Anyone know ?

[/ QUOTE ] You may be thinking of StVincent just recently - they were resting on passage from Martinique to St Lucia.

However, I have a couple of close friends who worked over on their boat in Marigot Bay, St Lucia about 4 years ago which did make it into the yachtie press at the time.

Bad luck about the OB. At l;east you got it nicked somewhere nice.Probably just as likely to be stolen in UK but colder.

You sound more worried about the mint supply /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bad luck - I had my outboard nicked about 14 months ago. It was only about 6 months old. So new one on the insurance and then a pot of yellow paint and a pot of red paint. The outboard now looks as it it's ready to join the circus parade - and hopefully produces an "oh, my, let's leave that alone and nick something we can resell easily" response. I'm thinking of doing the same to the dinghy.

Best outboard I ever saw in St Maartin wos covered in lemon fluorescent paint and thick splodges of epoxy resin(!)and on the top of the cowl was a skull and crossbones and writ large ' YOU TEEF I KILL"

In the land of hoodoo and voodoo and all that weird sh-t it was as good as any other measure,me thinks

It is quite probable of course that the toerags who tiefed TCM's toodlealong outboard were grotty yotties rather than locals...... some yotties of a certain nationality have quite a reputation in these latitudes for absconding with other folk's property, especially outboards.....

Me thinks that especially on a cat (lots of room) it is well worth while having a good pulling dinghy as well, and then you dont have to be 100% reliant on the O/B, as RIBs are a right sod to row at the best of times.

Some pals of mine stopped in here a few years ago on their Robertson & Caine cat (around 40 something feet overall) built in Stingoland - OK, they had the stereotype RIB and O/B, but they also had a very neat rowing skiff - I think it was a Merry Wherry ( http://www.merrywherry.com ) complete with a front rower device ( http://www.frontrower.com ) that stowed upside down very happily on top of the davits for the RIB.

And boy could that Merry Wherry shift - and it is good fun rowing facing forward - you can row with your feet as well, while sitting back and enjoying the scenery.

Much more fun than zooming about in RIBs.

.. good pulling dinghy ...

yer know .. nivver though of that. so if i paint .. erm .. some superyacht's name over my own name and generally row around the fleshpots of SoF (gosport?) or round your neck of the woods, tottie will climb aboard?

of course, the solution tae TCM's problems is to name the tender after some russian oligarch, KGB, or FRS thug's tub and nobody'd dare touch it or what's attached to it - TT Abramovich?

Re: .. good pulling dinghy ...

I am sure that handy Paras could get up to a lot of mischief in their pulling (erm, sorry, rowing) tenders, especially if they have Frontrowers fitted, as they can then paddle with their feet, leaving both hands free for other pulling activities....... you might be a bit restricted re quantity of totty on a Merry Wherry (they are not very beamy), but hey, that makes it all more interesting......
The paratender could then be re-named the Merry Totty perhaps.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
