Reverse image cameras

Why, don't you like it? My proposal wasn't meant to pull your leg - I do prefer the upside down view, honest! :)

I can see why it can seem weird if you are used to anything else, but think also about the motion:
In your setting, while reversing on your berth, what you see on your port screen is the dock coming closer from the front (I mean, from what appears to be in front of you, when seen on the screen), and the finger from the right.
Of course you know that the dock is actually behind you, and the finger is on your left, but with "my" setting you don't need to make any mental conversion, because what you see reflects exactly what happens: dock approaching behind you (i.e. from the bottom of the screen), and finger approaching from your left.

Then again, I did say also each to their own...! :encouragement:

Yea - sorry
I read your post and thought you were being funny so I posted LOL and went to bed.
On leaving the computer, I then thought - "he actually means it" - whoops.
Then I thought about it and understood what you were saying.
So sorry about my attitude.

This morning I thought about it and decided that upside down option isn't for me.
It just doesn't feel right and remember my concept is to see on the screen exactly what I would see if I were standing at the camera's position.

I didn't mean to offend.

No worries M, I didn't think for a second that your reply was meant to dismiss my proposal, let alone offend me.
And I can see why you'd rather stick to what you are used to, anyway. "Whatever works" springs to mind...! :encouragement:

I have a swann camera from maplins, £49 image can be reversed or flipped or reversed and flipped can't remember the model, but will be down at the boat at the w/e, it is analogue but i fitted a 12v Bluetooth transmitter and receiver to over come running wires

Thanks I would appreciate that.

I have also written to Swann as I cant see such a feature in the user guides i have looked at on line.

Of course your idea is madness. Then, this morning, I was reversing the boat in and I realized that you are right! It is the most logical so I tried to do it on my Raymarine HybridTouch and couldn’t for the life of me. So the question is does anyone know how to flip the image without turning the camera upside down?

interesting ideas, better than the confusion I still sometimes have when operating the bow thruster.
For the first year I had it wired so that you flick the stick to the left (port) in order to have the THRUST to the port, so that bows moved to strbrd, nice eh?
Now I have it what I guess is the "right" way, and every now and again, I flick it based on thrust and not movement and make a mess of it...

edit to say, same with trim tabs, haven't bothered swapping them so port is still moving the port tab...

hi-end first world problems!

Interesting to hear that I'm not alone in my madness.
Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but you are making me curious to check the general consensus on this matter.
Time for a small poll, methink...!

When you stand in front of your helm and look forward through the window you see the bow. If you look down at your screen, with the swim platform at the top of the screen, then it orientates perfectly with the bow and creates a whole boat in your mind.
