I thought that engine and gearbox control cables, such as are used on boats, had both ends threaded.
reverse gear not engaging - cable or bearing?

"Update, traced problem ( 95% sure ) to gearbox so removing it next week to have it looked at.
Will update then."
That was the last post in the thread .... we wait with bated breath for the outcome of the inspection

We had the same problem with our safety boat.
Hurth gear box on a beta engine. I phoned our local engineer and he said it was a common problem on the hurth box.
So much so that he said it was not worth fixing the old box. Hurth do a replacement box for £350 quid, which we went for.
