Hi all. I have a 2004 mercruiser 350 mag mpi. My rev counter is not working. Does anybody know where the feed/signal comes from at the engine end?? I've tested the signal wire at the gauge end with a 12v tester but no joy?? ..

If it’s an analogue standard faria type gauge it’s usually from the alternator. But being an mpi it can also be off the ecu and smartcraft.

Worth noting that it could also just be that the gauge is no good. Also quite common. Faria used to offer a exchange service. If it’s one. There is a test you can perform on it to see if it is ok. Have a google.

Petrol engines don’t use the alternator for a rev signal, its always from the ignition system. All Mercruisers use a signal from the negative side of the coil, on your engine there will be a gray wire from the rev counter down to the engine and it goes via a 4 wire connector where the gray wire changes to a white wire which then goes to the coil.

Apologies. Feed from the ignition module. Not the alternator....(never been good at multi tasking !!)And or smart craft junction network.
