On my Volvo penta 2001 is accurate up to 1000 revs then it wont go any higher, the needle doesnt appear to be touching anything on the way around and its wired up correctly,it runs off the alternator.is it time for a new revcounter? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It could be the signal from the alternator, if you have a multi-meter that will measure frequency you could test the output signal. I say frequency because normally the signal to the RPM meter is a function of alternator speed which on the AC output side (where the signal is measured) varies according to speed i.e. more speed higher frequency. I believe on the Volvo RPM meter there is a rotary switch on the back that allows the unit to be used on different engines, has this been moved? If not note the numerical position and try moving it, it could be a poor connection also check all your connections from Alternator to the RPM meter.
