Rev counter for Yanmar 1GM10

I apologise for jumping too fast and I was rather unfair to you in this instance. In defence I can only claim that it can be frustrating on here when a person takes the time to answer a quite specific question and the OP (original poster) never shows up again; Was the problem solved, did the OP even come back to see it? These are things we never find out.

It is not fair on you, but most often this happens from people who join the forum on the day of asking and their post count never passes 1.

I am sorry I put you in that category, but when there was still no response to my posting I did think, uh oh, here we go again.

I fitted faria counters to my two 1GM10 engines, these work exceptionally well and are quite easy to fit, as I have said before on here, to add a wire to the Hitachi alternators fitted to the 1GM10 is about 2 spanners if we use Haynes manual terminology.

To fit a faria you will require the counter, a capacitor and wire, the counters and capacitors are available from ASAP

Click for link. I used FAR32842 which will come up when searched. Then add 708194 to the search window to find the capacitor you will require.

In the meantime may I point you to the alternator cct diagrams for yanmar Hitachi alternators and another pdf for a similar alt-sensed rev counter that will give you an idea how it all works.

Useful tacho manuals (these help with calibration, when you are ready to set them up)

If you do go this route and when you have the components I will be happy to assist in the wiring to the alternator and any other questions you may have.

Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

Thanks DogWatch - apology accepted. You are right of course about the chancers who post a one-off query and don't have the decency to acknowledge the help which is offered. Luckily they are in the minority on most forums - I just don't happen to be one that breed. I've been a PBO reader since my dad bought issue No. 1 (which I've still got somewhere) when I was a teenager. I have owned boats of many types and sizes over the last thirty five years and if my knowledge and experience can be of use to anyone through the forum I will gladly assist.
Thanks a million for the great information you have supplied about fitting a rev counter - I will certainly follow this up just as soon as I get a chance. This post, with the responses from yourself and the other guys, is a great example of how powerful the PBO forum can be as a means of supporting eachother in the boating community. Thanks again to you all.

Ronnie
