We've been fortunate enough to be asked to help crew a boat to La Caruna in August. Any ideas on the best/cheapest way of returning? - Local airports, train then ferry, etc?

Thanks

Kelvin

There are a lot of possibilities of going van Coruña to England. It depends on the money you want to spend and on the time available.
1. Coruña has an airport, but no direct connections to England. You would have to fly to Madrid or Barcelona and take a plane from there to England
2. Santiago de Compostela has one direct flight per day to Heathrow, with Iberia. This plane is usually quite full and reserving some time in advance is necessary. To go to Santiago one can take the train or bus. I suggest that the bus is the easiest. At the Santiago busstation you can take another bus directly to the airport. You have to find the times of the busses, once you know if you have a seat on the plane. The busses to Santiago go once per hour.
3. By far the cheapest flights from Spain to England leave from Madrid or from the mediterranean coast (Gerona, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, Almeria, Malaga, Sevilla) From the coast it might be possible to get onto a charter. Cheap companies like Virgin Express, Go or Ryanair fly regularly. as far as I know, from Madrid. Check Internet!! To go from Coruña to Madrid one can again take a bus or the train. In my experience the bus is faster and goes more often. You can check in internet the schedule and the prices at Alsa. To go from the bus-station to the airport you take a taxi. Taxis are relatively cheap in Spain.
4. The distance from Coruña to the Med is appr. 1200 km and to Madrid appr. 600. It seems logical to go to Madrid and take a cheap flight from there to England.

Keep off taxis in Spain I paid 130 euros from Girona to port vendre. I would vote for the railways every time! great service and high quality rolling stock.

Have you considered, bus/train to Santander, then the ferry to UK, Plymouth or is it Portsmouth, not sure?

Going by train from Coruña to Madrid takes about 50 % more time than by bus. Trains in Spain may be good, but from Coruña to Madrid they are very slow. The bus takes the freeway and, if you take the luxury bus, are very comfortable. The only thing that would make sense is to take the night-train from Coruña to Madrid. You arrive rather early, something like 7 a'clock, at Chamartin, on the N-side of Madrid and I guess that for about 20 euros a taxi takes you to the airport.
There is no direct rail-connection from Coruña to Santander, so you have to take a bus. Only part of the road from Coruña to Santander is freeway and it takes about the same time as going to Madrid.
