Before I bought my share of our boat the fuel tank was replaced. Unfortunately nobody thought to include a new sender unit and access now makes this all but impossible as you need to get inside tank to tighten the lock nuts etc.

Does anyone know of any type of sender that can be installed without removing the tank?

Cheers

Some tank gauges can be fitted externally. Google tank gauges.

Our fuel tank gauge has been at zero for the past 12 years. I have kept careful fuel records and know my consumption and refill based on that. I use less than 1/2 gallon an hour, 23 gallon tank, fill up with 10 gallons every twenty hours. Simple, and no moving parts.:)

Most fuel tank senders don't need internal access for installation. Download the installation instructions for the gauges you're interested in.

sorry - failed to make myself clear, or rather, got muddled up! the top of the tank is inaccessible, the side is accessible. Any sender must therefore work on a sort of arm like a ballcock or else be a capacitance type.

Trouble wth the mental arithmetic system is that with three users you are slightly uncertain who has used what when if records aren't accurately kept!
