Hi All,
Has anyone retrofitted a Joystick to a shaft drive boat (Targa 52) for close quarter boat handling.
I recall a recent article in MBY of a reasonably priced retro-fit system.
Who does it , is a stern thruster necessary, and any ideas of very rough costs?
Thanks
S

They are D12-800's.
Just in the process of purchasing T52 but am a little concerned at my initial manoeuvring skills.
I thought a joystick retrofit for berthing would be much easier and a lot less stressful!

I suppose at the risk of stating the obvious, I wouldn't bother with a joystick. The T52 is a nice-handling boat, so I'd probably start with a day's own-boat tuition, and if I still wasn't feeling it, I'd add a sternthruster. (I know there are plenty of purists on here that say you don't need one - but there are others who praise them for giving you that extra bit of confidence for close-quarters handling). After all that if I still wasn't comfortable I think I'd look into a yachtcontroller remote, which allows you to leave the helm and get up close and personal with whatever tight spot you're trying to get into/out of.

You smoothe talker!
I will give it a go to see how I get on and yes a stern thruster was at the top of the must add list.
Thanks for your input.
