Retro fitting stern thrusters

As a matter of daft male pride I try as much as possible not to use the bow thruster when mooring with twin shafts, and feel slightly sheepish if on rare occasions I have to press the dasterdly thruster switch, but it's there to be used when needed so to heck with pride our gel coat is more important. :)

Plus one to that

Split the sticks and rudder hard over the opposite way....it needs a bit of practice. That you tube clip made it look pretty easy but usually find there is a bit of current or tide and so ferry gliding often works!

I have never tried that, when manovering with engines I all ways have the rudders straight,
So are you saying if you want to side walk to port lets say, then hard to starboard, and then head on on port engine and a stern on starboard ?

if you wish to go to port - helm to starboard- port astern - starboard ahead

Umm, I would helm to port in this situation.

Nah, hes got the helm right but the engines wrong. Racing frank was right.

To go sideways to port

Port engine forward, sbd engine astern, bow thrust left.
You can add rudder to starboard, that will increase the speed that the stern moves to port by about 1/3.

There is no point though as the stern will be moving faster that the bow unless you have a ridiculously large bow thruster.

So racing frank was even more right as he prefers to leave his helm amidships. Keep it simple, i agree.
