Retro fitting electric windlass to 2005 Bavaria 37

Hi hope this is the right forum. Can anyone recommend a decent yard or marine fitter around the Solent who could retro fit a wndlass. Will need a mounting shelf glassed in to seat the windlass and I believe the original wiring harness should have the required cabling but not sure on that one.Thanks.

Any half-decent yard should be able to do that. However, it would be worthwhile for you to look at a few similar Bav 37s to see how the windlass is usually mounted.

I've bolted a stainless steel plate onto the smaller platform that's left in the anchor locker. Bolted the windlass onto that and that has worked fine over the last years.

Thanks I noticed that small shelf did you have to raise or sink levels to run over the bow roller ?

No, I didn't need to make any further adjustments. Just bolted the plate and windlass onto the little shelf. A Quick windlass. The type escapes me for now..

Not the same boat, I know, but this year I retrofitted a Lewmar Pro 700 windlass to a Jeanneau SO 36.2. The unit did fit on the existing shelf, but there was no cabling. The whole job took me, a numpty shipwright/electrician, less than three days and cost me just under £100 for the cables complete with connectors crimped on by a local battery shop (plus all the drill bits etc I never seem to have in the toolkit)....

Thanks for that. Now bought my 37 and it has a 10cm shelf in the locker. Have looked at a factory fitted model where the shelf is 30cm and has glassed supports at the leading edge. Do you have a picture of your fitting pleae.

You need to replicate the factory arrangement - that is build in a platform of similar size and then suggest fit a Lofrans Cayman 88 which would have been the factory fit at the time. Much better windlass than the Lewmar. Only downside is that the housing is aluminium, so sensible to take all the fastenings out and coat with Duralec before refitting. Also paint the bottom face as it sits on a gasket that holds water.
