Retrieving lost anchor

In this situation the best strategy has been to drop a loop of line or a large ring over the anchor rode, take the dink out past the anchor allowing the loop or ring to drop down the rode until it slips down the shank and pull the anchor out backwards.
That is brilliant and I’ve never heard of that before.
It might just save the day one day

A while ago I was reading (probably on here) about someone losing their anchor. And I wondered how I would retrieve my anchor if I lost it. Grappling hook? Diving? So I thought outside of the box and bought one of these

About €34 . It arrived today so I tested it on my spare anchor in the garage. I honestly think I could retrieve my anchor if I lost it down the Mariana Trench!
What do the panel think?

What do you mean by lost? Do you mean that the shackle between the chain and the anchor has broken and the anchor is lying on the seabed or do you mean the anchor has got stuck under an obstruction and you can't pull it up? If the former, I would much rather spend my money on some decent calibrated chain and a nice new good quality shackle to stop the anchor being lost in the first place. Anyway you'd have to be very lucky with the magnet to lower it to the precise spot where the anchor is lying. If the latter the magnet is not going to help you anyway

so not on the boat :ROFLMAO:
Me thinks its ok if
so not on the boat :ROFLMAO:
Methinks if it has a keeper across the poles it will be ok on the boat away from the compass or auto helm compass. I remember in the melly of small craft at anchor watching them trying to lift the Mary Rose off Spithead my mate on the adjacent boat caught his anchor under a ground chain. Although He was a certified diver He had to pay a M .Rose diver £100 to release it.

No I can’t! You rich guys with your non magnetic anchors can afford divers (p.s. don’t forget when you are in Nice, to visit Antibes to see how some of the forumites live????)
Don’t worry I have the spare keys to Deleted User boat , I hope leaves the tanks full plus the fun box.

Why all the questions? I didn’t think it through. Honest Guv!
Look I always fancied a magnet on a string, Incase I dropped my keys or something. Then I get these adds for powerful magnets in my inbox. The reason I need one I made up. Ok! You got me. Don’t tell the Mrs

I keep a rare earth magnet on the side of my drill for all the bits and screws. I have one in the toolbag so I just toss screws etc in willy nilly. Good for finding screw heads under filler also.

I think you need a magnet to go searching for trophies in the dungeons at White Hart Lane. There certainly arent any in the display cabinet:p

As a Watford supporter you probably don’t know this but silverware isn’t magnetic ????⚽️?

FWIW I have a couple of the magnetic mini bricks from Nauticalia.

Incredibly useful for extracting screws etc from suction cleaner bags, picking up scaffolding clips from the hydro-electric sluice (dropped by dozy scaffolding contractor), and tied to an oar useful for poking into bilges for specs and spanners.

You have made a good investment Bouba.

I am proud that my club has not won a significant trophy in its glorious 122 yr old history. We play for the love of the game not for mere metalware:rolleyes:

Did you know that in the two tables that Tottenham are in they top both of them?

I guess you are referring to the Womens Over 60's Veterans League and the Fair Play League?

How's that scooter of yours faring?
very well. During lockdown I didn’t use my car once, i did all our shopping and took all our recycling on the scooter. The trick is to attach a hook (as in my photo) then you can carry a couple of shopping bags and suddenly it becomes incredibly useful???
